In Copenhagen a young woman, Delphine, falls in love with an untitled painting she has seen in a gallery, by the French painter Jean-Luc Foreur. She cannot help writing him a fan letter, to which he replies briefly. This is the beginning of a correspondence that develops over the next eighteen months. Soon the letters grow more intimate and Delphine begins to bare her soul layer by layer. As the man reveals himself mysteriously through his letters, her dependence grows, and her feelings for him turn into a grand passion. She has become concentrated body and soul with longing for the lover she has never seen. Eventually a meeting can no longer be postponed.

Recenzijas

Delphine, from Copenhagen, is enchanted by a painting by a French artist and can't resist sending him a fan letter. Although married, he can't resist responding... A novel in the form of letters seems old-fashioned, but this imparts a thrilling intensity as the relationship blossoms from mischievous teasing to flirting, and eventually into passion. It creates an atmosphere which is almost claustrophobic, evoked by emotional description, interrupted, now and then, by the physical world as the writers picture themselves visiting galleries and hotels. What will happen when they eventually meet? The final twist hits the reader with as much of a coup de foudre as Delphine's realization that she is in love. An exquisite, extraordinary and erotic novel. (Kirkus UK)
