This book advocates transitioning from a conventional to a sustainable wildlife tourism paradigm by adopting principles of sustainable development, providing a detailed concept and procedure for integrating the different concepts and approaches to sustainable tourism, with a focus on the frequently overlooked link between conventional and sustainable tourism. It emphasizes the advancement of sustainable tourism in wildlife tourism at both the attraction and destination levels. Based on the theoretical implications, the book adds to the existing knowledge of sustainable tourism development by providing a framework for a better understanding and integration of conventional and responsible medical tourism. It supports the argument that implementing sustainable development principles is one of the key solutions for reducing or eliminating related impacts from wildlife tourism.

Moreover, this book addresses the unsustainability problem of wildlife tourism by suggesting the adoption of guiding principles of responsible tourism, which are bottom-line strategies for the implementation of sustainable wildlife tourism. However, the adoption of sustainable tourism comes with certain expenses and requirements. It may necessitate that the destinations undergo fundamental changes in their existing legal and policy frameworks. Furthermore, this book has practical and theoretical implications for academics, wildlife and tourism professionals, students, policymakers, and wildlife tourists with or without sufficient background in wildlife tourism, as it initially introduces the readers to the basic concepts of wildlife tourism, responsible tourism, and sustainable tourism. It also explores the various dimensions of traditional wildlife tourism, their impacts, and challenges.

Abel Ansporthy Mamboleo is a senior lecturer in the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Saint Augustine University of Tanzania. He has authored numerous articles on topics such as wildlife tourism, wildlife conservation strategies, and computational modelling in conservation. While at the Saint Augustine University of Tanzania, he served as the head of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management from 2021 to 2025. He is also one of the founders and editors of various journals globally, including the Eastern African Journal of Hospitality, Leisure, and Tourism.   Some of his recent publications include Wildlife-based tour operators complying with the principles of responsible tourism" published in the Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism, International tourist hunting: a review of severity on environmental" published in the Journal of Sustainability and Resilience, A computational modeling approach to human-elephant interactions in the Bunda district" published in the Journal of Ecological Modelling and Integrating football events into domestic tourism: analysis of influence of tourist facilities on travel decisions of domestic football tourists" published in the International Journal of Tourism and Hospitality.   During his profession as the District Wildlife Officer for six years in the Morogoro region, Abel participated in the execution of several community-based conservation initiatives. He collaborated with several local and international organisations, as well as community-based wildlife conservation organisations, in wildlife conservation and tourism activities. Abel earned his first and second degrees in wildlife management from Sokoine University of Agriculture, a prominent public university in Morogoro, Tanzania.   Abel completed his Ph.D. in environmental modelling and simulation at Lincoln University in Christchurch, New Zealand, focusing on studying human-elephant interactions adjacent to the Serengeti National Park. He is ecstatic to engage in publishing this book on sustainable and responsible wildlife tourism. This endeavour aims to enhance understanding and adoption of sustainability and responsibility behaviours among wildlife stakeholders globally.   The book is designed to be a valuable tool for practitioners working in the field, particularly for those involved in fields of tourism and wildlife conservation. It is envisioned that this book will play a significant role in promoting effective strategies for wildlife utilisation and conservation with current and future generations in our minds. This initiative underscores the existing gap in practical and theoretical applications of the sustainability concepts in wildlife tourism, emphasising the need for books that translate scientific knowledge into actionable insights.   The book aims to empower travel agencies, travel companies, travel operators, destination management organisations, conservation agencies, biologists, conservationists, tourists, students and researchers by providing comprehensive and applicable information, facilitating a deeper understanding of sustainable and responsible wildlife tourism. Eventually, Abel's book aims to enhance sustainability and responsibility in wildlife tourism, ensuring that our grandsons grandsons can appreciate the rich and unique wildlife resources everlasting.
