The discourses of the great Stoic philosopher Epictetus are regarded as some of the most influential teachings of the ancient world. Born into slavery in AD 55, Epictetus was one of the greatest Stoic philosophers of Roman antiquity. His Discourses a series of lectures taught at his school of philosophy in Nicopolis were transcribed by his student Arrian, and offer practical guidance on how to follow stoicism in daily life.
