Narrow bands woven in colorful patterns are a centuries-old part of Baltic craft tradition and this is the first book to focus on the easy-to-use double slotted heddle!

Narrow bands woven in colorful patterns are a centuries-old part of Baltic craft tradition. The double-slotted heddle makes patterned band weaving quicker to learn and easier to do, and this is the first book that offers beginners instructions for using it. The craft doesn't involve bulky equipment—all you need can be stored in a shoebox! Learn how to weave these beautiful bands step by step, from the simple 5 pattern threads to the more complex 7 and 9 patterns. Color photographs illustrate the instructions for learning to weave. More than 140 patterns are included, along with principles for planning your own unique designs for contemporary uses such as straps, belts, bracelets, and even handfasting bands. The breathtaking range of colorful bands woven in Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Norway are explored and offer additional inspiration.

Recenzijas

The first chapter describes Susans research and some history on band weaving. Whilst many will be tempted to jump straight into the designs, I would recommend reading about Susans travels and the intensive research shes done - quite fascinating. Following a short chapter on equipment required, and preparing to weave, the main part of the book is dedicated to pattern charts, starting with 5 pattern threads and progressing to 9 pattern threads. Throughout, the book has clear descriptions and great accompanying images, making reading and learning so easy. There are also numerous tips and design ideas to encourage the reader to experiment and progress further. Of the dozens of books I have on weaving and knot tying, this has to rate as one of the best. It is so well thought out, organised and presented, I thoroughly recommend it. -- Phil Cook, The Braid Society newsletter, November 2018
