Based on research funded by the British Library and the British Film Institute which took place between 1994 and 1996, this volume presents a study of four to nine year-olds and their experiences with computers, computer games, and videos, both at home and at school. Topics include how parents and teachers view technological change; what they know about children's use of technology; and how children actually spend their time with computers, both with their friends and alone. Other themes addressed include the value of entertainment technology, the lack of mediation of children's experiences, and gender issues. Distributed by Taylor & Francis. Annotation c.
